Balham outclassed in Cup

Doverhouse Lions 7 Balham 0

Today was always going to be tough against Premier Elite opponents, and for chunks of the game Balham competed well against a very strong team. A lacklustre performance in the second half, particularly the first twenty minutes when the boys gave away several silly goals, undid a decent first half effort.

Doverhouse scored several goals from crosses, and showed some sublime skill to whip in several balls which were tough to defend. The boys battled hard in the first period but were undone by two of these which were converted by pinpoint headers. At the other end, whilst Balham tried to pass the ball around in their normal style, the quality of the opposition's midfield and defence limited us to long-range efforts.

The second half was one-way traffic with the home side making several chances. The Whites had one chance to score after a strong run from Ty couldn't quite be finished by an onrushing Jude. Credit to the boys for sticking with it, particularly in the last 10-15 minutes.

Hopefully, the boys will be determined to recapture their League form next week with a Home match against Nork Park. The squad remains riddled with knocks and niggles, so crucial the boys rest, warm up properly before training and matches, and give Jamie the opportunity to coach how he wants to play by attending training with the commitment to learn and gel.

Whilst most teams played in the Cup this Sunday, the one league match saw a victory for Epsom & Ewell over Moor Mead. They are now top of the league, unbeaten with 7 points. All the Cup results can be found on Full Time.
